Well.. Tough Week for Whyalla.
And, it’s going to be tough for a while yet.
Here at Mine Read moreSpec Industries, we heard the news the same as everyone.. We’ve been running our gig for over 12 years now. In this time, we’ve endured the first Arrium Administration, followed by turbulent times again, which has led us into the GFG Administration.. We’ve dealt with the closure of the Coke Ovens, the Iron Knob Mining Area, the Iron Baron Mining Area, and now the once strong beating heart of the Steelworks, with the shutdown of the Blast Furnace.
We’re a resilient mob.. That’s just Whyalla in general. We don’t know how to give up. When we are faced with circumstances well beyond our control, we dig deep. We adapt. We support each other, and we sure as shit don’t give up, or give in.
This recent Blast Furnace setback, is just another circumstance that sadly, we have to face. But we’ll do it together, as we have in the past, and as we’ll continue to do in the future, until Whyalla and our Mining & Steelmaking Operations become sustainable & viable again, as we all believe will be the case.
We’re just hoping that the Authorities who are navigating these serious issues are looking at the vital importance of time being the essence. The eventual loss of over 600 jobs, plus countless contractors and business’s is going to sting.. There’s no doubt about that.
Now more than ever, we need to dig deeper to keep our heads up. Support Locals in every way you can. Be there for one another, and we will prevail.
We are now actively looking across both our Business Entities – Mine Spec Industries & Mine Spec Viva, to see where we can adapt & diversify and this may hopefully bring about a few employment opportunities for some locals who may be looking for a new direction moving forward. We’ll keep you all posted with this as we look to identify how we’ll go about this.
It’s pretty dark at the minute people, but the sun will shine again. And we’ll be here with you, side by side for the journey.. The good, the bad, and the downright ugly. Together.. It’s the only way we know how to do it.
Whyalla is filled with Great People, who are capable of Great Things.
Let’s dig deep, and go again.
